Year 0
You are the second face to meet her eyes
And though you're nothing more than a mess of colors and light
Your hushed voice makes the scary new world around her
Seem insignificant and small
She sees you smile at Mommy, and Mommy smiles at you
Everything is alright in her world
Everything will be fine
Year 1
You were there to catch her first words
And there to help her take her first steps
You are the best "horsey" in the entire world
And the greatest "hide n seeker" this side of town
When you leave for work, she waits for you
And when you return, she screams with joy
Everything is alright in her world
Everything will be fine
Year 5
Her constant chatter is bothersome to you, and she can see it in your face
What should be minor spankings, do more damage than you think
But she loves you unconditionally and still wants your love in return
You yell at her for a toddler's mistake, and make her cry
Force her to eat even after she is full, because she cannot waste food
But think that a new doll can fix it, and it does in that moment
Her baby brother is born, and she couldn't be happier
Even if you seem to care for him more than her
She sees you yell at Mommy, and Mommy yells at you
But Mommy says everything is alright in her world
And everything will be fine
Year 12
The older she gets, the more abrasive your discipline
She defies you and no longer pays mind to you as she once did
Her disinterest in you angers you, and you assure her she is worthless in your eyes
You do everything with your son, and leave her behind to make a point
You argue with her constantly, egg her on and push her buttons
Only to raise your hand at her in superiority, and blame her for making you behave that way
She is depressed even at such a young age, but you choose to ignore it
She sees you scream and cuss at Mommy, and Mommy screams back at you
You leave her and the house behind
But Mommy says everything is alright in her world, even if she knows it's a lie
Everything will be "fine"
Year 16
You are nothing to her, even in returning to the household
Battling through depression and your abuse, she has risen without you
And would rather you have left for good than returned
You, as you age, regret losing the girl who's eyes once sparkled at the sight of you
And pain seeing the utter hatred and resent that burns behind them now
You say you will change to her, and for the moment you do
But it is not so long before you revert and slam the door in her face again
And eventually, she gives up on you all together
Her brother sees you scream at her, and she screams back at you
And she assures him of what kind of man you are
Everything everything is broken in her world
Everything is crumbling to pieces
Year 18
She is due to leave you to make a life for herself
And she couldn't be happier to finally be rid of you
It is only now you realize her true worth to you, after years of making her feel worthless
You try all in your power to get her love back, but to her, you are now worthless
You blame it all on your past, but she's heard the story one thousand times
Your son resents you now, for you have done the same to him
She is utterly done with you, all is past the point of repair
In her world, you are small and insignificant
Without you, everything is alright in her world
Everything will be fine

I've learned the true meaning of the word "Apathy" with my own sperm donor. Now that I'm dying he seems to want to play nice.
There's nothing wrong with autobiographical or semi-autobiographical pieces. If you took any writing/lit in college you probably learned that virtually every writer does it, at least once -often their first piece(s). You write from what you know. It's like a demon one needs to exorcise. Some of us just have more demons than others...
